As the world moves towards the electrification of transportation, developments in monitoring the batteries used become essential for improving the performance, safety and longevity of automotive systems. The expert presentation “From Road to Cloud: Real-World Insights on Lithium-Ion Battery Monitoring” will discuss the key steps in operating a battery in a vehicle and how data collection and optimization contribute to understanding battery performance.
The event will feature prominent experts from academia and industry. Dr. Martin Ufert, researcher and group leader at the Fraunhofer Institute for Transportation and Infrastructure Systems (IVI), will provide insights into the current state of research in the field of electromobility, focusing on system integration and energy management of different storage technologies. He will also discuss how vehicle-to-grid applications enable the connection of electric vehicles to the electricity grid, promote energy storage and improve grid stability. Lutz Morawietz, Head of Algorithm Development at Volytica Diagnostics, will explore the interface between batteries and advanced cloud-based algorithms. His expertise in battery data analytics will help attendees understand how these techniques can improve the utilization of battery energy. In addition, the expert will address the challenges of extracting important data from batteries and the limitations of battery management systems (BMS).
Our speakers:
Martin Ufert is Researcher and Group Manager at Fraunhofer Institute for Transportation and Infrastructure Systems (IVI). He can draw on more than 10 years of professional experience in electro mobility engineering and project management. Martin serves as Head of the research group for Energy Storage Monitoring Systems and Operating Strategies in the department of vehicle systems. Fraunhofer IVI has been developing systems, components and software solutions for electrified drives of buses and commercial vehicles for more than 15 years.
Lutz Morawietz is Head of Algorithm Development at Volytica Diagnostics. After graduating in electrical engineering, Lutz spent years developing algorithms and conducting experiments on battery data. With over two decades of experience in battery testing, algorithm development, and R&D, Lutz has dedicated his career to understanding the most expensive and relevant part of the energy transition, the battery. Five years ago, Lutz joined Volytica Diagnostics as Head of Algorithm Development. This role focuses on unlocking the full potential of battery data, turning insights into actionable improvements for performance and efficiency.
